CD&R Expands Tech Value Creation Function
May 27, 2026
CD&R (or the “Firm”) today announced it is expanding its existing Tech Value Creation (“TVC”) function to deepen the Firm’s capabilities at the intersection of technology, AI and value creation. This move reflects the increasing importance of technology and AI as drivers of performance across CD&R’s portfolio and underscores the Firm’s sustained commitment to technology as a core area of investment, backed by dedicated talent, infrastructure and process.
CD&R Partner Stephen Shapiro will lead the TVC function and join the Firm’s Investment Committee as a standing member, effective immediately. A 24-year veteran of CD&R, Stephen has played a leading role in the Firm’s technology investing activities. CD&R Managing Director Chris Satchell, who helped build the TVC function and has led CD&R’s early AI work across the portfolio, will take on an expanded role as Head of Portfolio Technology.
The TVC team engages with portfolio company management from diligence through exit, and CD&R is adding specialists in areas such as ERP and cybersecurity alongside a dedicated in-house engineering team focused on AI deployment. CD&R Co-President Rick Schnall will oversee the Firm’s U.S. technology investing efforts in partnership with the TVC team.
“This is a deliberate investment in our own capabilities,” said Nate Sleeper, Chief Executive Officer of CD&R. “We are putting talent, infrastructure and senior leadership behind technology and AI initiatives because our portfolio companies need partners who can match the pace of change in their industries.”
“Our aim is straightforward,” said Stephen Shapiro. “We help the companies we invest in build the kind of long-term, durable growth that technology and AI increasingly make possible. We believe the team we have today, combined with the additions we are making, positions us well to do that.”
