Previously, he was chairman of Pilkington, Alliance Boots, Pendragon, Invensys and non-executive director and latterly deputy chairman of Barclays Bank and Barclays plc. He is a deputy lieutenant of Derbyshire and a former chancellor of Loughborough University.
